Macdonald Campus Students' Society (MCSS)
MCSS represents the interests of all Macdonald Campus students: Farm Management and Technology (FMT), undergraduate and graduate. Since 1914, MCSS has been involved in most campus activities; social events, academic affairs, clubs and organizations. As student representatives, members of council, or their designates, sit on dozens of University and Faculty Committees and sub-Committees.We currently employ Lise, our Accountant (full-time); Joelle, our Administrative Secretary (seasonal); Cathy, our Bookstore Manager (full-time); and a Bar Manager (part-time), as well as Bar Staff. Revenues for day-to-day operations come mainly from student fees, the Ceilidh and the Bookstore (Robber's Roost).
Plans and policies are adopted and implemented by the 19-member Students' Council, which meets every two weeks. All are welcome to attend Council meetings to see what really happens. All members of Students' Council and all other committees are volunteers; we are students, just like you, who want to make a difference on this campus. You can be part of the experience by simply making your suggestions known to us (via e-mail, phone, suggestion box notes, or in person in the C.C.). You are also encouraged to get involved in one of the many clubs or organizations supported at Mac. We look forward to meeting you!
Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Undergraduate Society (AESUS)
Those of you registered in the Farm Management and Technology Program (FMT), and undergraduates of the B.Sc. of Agriculture, Environmental Sciences and Engineering are members of the AESUS. Our organization counts five executive members and hopes to have representatives from each program to make a link between the students and us.The purpose of AESUS is: to maintain a high degree of cooperation, participation and friendship among members by organizing social activities and events that allow members to meet each other; to provide assistance and information to members for academic problems; to provide information on the different professional associations to which AESUS members are eligible upon graduation; and to maintain good communication with the MCSS and other clubs on campus.
This year we intend to organize some cultural (films, speakers, special guests) and social (oh yea, party!) events, continue to organize the Happy Belly Detour once a week in the Ceilidh and provide funding and/or support to students who want to organize an activity (check Mouthpiece for fund request deadline). This is the Mac Environmental Club, dedicated to solving the environmental crisis, starting with our campus (as you might have heard before: think globally, act locally). This past year we have focused our efforts mainly on making recycling more available and widespread at Mac, by bringing recycling to the main student buildings: the CC and the MS building, and not just in the residences. This will continue to be a big issue during this year.We are also interested in eliminating (or at least reducing) the use of styrofoam on campus, having a compost bin in the cafeteria, as well as fair trade coffee. Also, a Vermi-compost group has started at Mac. Ask us how you can get a Vermi-compost, so that worms will eat your garbage! Through a fun and easy info session you can be taught all that you need to know to become a Vermi-compost expert!
CERES has many events: (1) Necessity Day, where you can get rid of what you don't want and shop through what others don't want and (2) Buy Nothing Day, to remind us all to be wise consumers... CERES also promotes environmentally friendly school supplies, such as our prized used paper pads which are available in the Bookstore. There is so much that CERES can do.
